Family map — user guide

Mark the places in your story: name, country, year, description, pin on the OpenStreetMap map.

1. What the family map is for

You drop places: family home, trip, birth, settling. Each pin has a name, optional country, optional year, description, and coordinates.

  • OpenStreetMap basemap (OSM France), not Google Maps.
  • Click the map to place the marker (coordinates required).
  • Nominatim geocoding if you did not force coordinates and the name is not a Zero-Knowledge blob.

It is not live GPS, and not family location sharing.

2. Add, edit, remove

When signed in, the marketing page redirects to My map. The form opens if the list is empty, on create, or on edit.

  • Place name: required.
  • Map click: required (valid lat/lng).
  • Country, year (YYYY), description: optional.
  • Pin colours from a fixed palette.

Geocoding is rate-limited. If it fails, the pin stays where you clicked.

3. Required plan

The family map is not included in Essentiel.

  • Famille and Héritage: feature open.
  • Essentiel: upgrade banner.

4. Privacy

Labels may be encrypted (Zero-Knowledge). The external geocoder then does not receive the clear name: you place the pin yourself.

  • Hosting in France.
  • Basemap via OSM.
  • Only you edit your places.

If you do not want an address sent to the geocoder, drop the marker by hand.
